Serengeti National Park, Tanzania October 2008   Assessment Criteria Satisfaction  in % Comments Pool - Tent/ Room 70 you walk on rubber, its a long drop loo and you don't have a water basin inside Restaurant atmosphere 80 they set up an extra dining tent which is nice! Food 80 if you compare this to a permanent camp then the food is much less attractive but given that... nice Management & Staff 80 nice and friendly, a bit helpless here and there and not busy Camp/ Lodge 70 didnt look too nice overall but real safari feeling Originality of reserve 80   no off road which is good on one hand, on the other it limits the opportunities Diversity of reserve 100   great, from dry to green Wildlife - quantity  100   everything in good numbers Wildlife - diversity 100   well, there is everything in Wildlife - extraordinary occurrences 90 almost kill, intercations of male lion with 8 cubs etc We weren't lucky enough (again) to catch the migration here. They moved just outside of the park we were told into the north east. And we were located in the middle of the park regardless that we wanted to stay in the north (that’s what we ordered at least). We found out, that the location of where the private camp is being set up is being dictated by the rangers of the park. If we would have known this we would have chosen a permanent lodge well located in the north. Okay, Serengeti is great. There was no place before which we have visited anywhere which such a great wildlife. Even though one is not allowed to get off-road usually one can find something exciting (such as kills) just next to the road. Having said this, one might go for an hour without encountering much. But then landscape is beautiful and variation too. And you never know what is behind the next corner. The pictures will speak for themselves. Before you get there be aware, it is amazingly expensive for tourist to go there (50US$ per day and head and car, the guide comes cheaper). The camping spot is expensive too and as mentioned above, nobody knows where the rangers will put you. The private camp is a trade: you are all alone with your guide and 4 other staffs (cook, waiter, truck driver, and I don’t know, there was a 4th one with an unknown function but very friendly and then the guide). They set the camp before you arrive. So far so good. If everybody is nice and the guide is a good one, then you should be okay. If not, you are hooked up with them for that time with no escape. No doubt, sitting next to the fire in the evening with a glass of wine, just the 2 of you while hearing the lions roaring in the distance... this is an experience! A cool one. click here: BACK TO Kenya and Tanzania Main Page
